Boston University grabs top spot in national poll
Boston University has claimed the top spot in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Division I men's poll and rank number one in the nation. Their steady play and winning ways have finally paid off. BU pulled down 29 of 50 first place votes. Boston College slipped from second place to fifth place and did not receive any first place votes for the first time all season.
This is the first time Boston University has held the number one spot since right before the 2006 NCAA tournament and it is the first time they have been ranked number one in the regular season since January 5, 1998.
One of the main contributing factors to BU’s success has been the play of sophomore forwards Colin Wilson and Nick Bonino. Both players have 12 points on the season. Wilson has 5g, 7a and Bonino is at 4g, 8a, which is good for a first place tie at the top of Hockey East scoring. The duo is tied for third nationally in points per game at 1.71. Wilson, who was named the 2008 Hockey East Rookie of the Year, tied his career high in points this weekend (2g, 2a) in the Terrier’s game against UMass-Lowell on Saturday. His performance was good enough to win CCM/RBK Hockey East Player of the Week honors.

Up next for the Terriers is #20 UMass-Amherst. BU travels to Amherst on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. EST face-off. Hockey East play continues on Sunday night when they take on visiting Northeastern at 7:00 p.m. EST. The Huskies still hold on to the top spot in Hockey East with nine points, while Boston University holds down second place with 6 points.
