The smell of baked apples is often a sign that fall has arrived. Apples are high in fiber and provide a good source of vitamin C. Due to their thin skin, choose the organic option when possible. With so many varieties at the farmer's market, how do you know which one to pick?  Which apples will taste the best in your fall baking?

Here are a few to choose from:

*Cortland: Sweet with a hint of tartness.

  • *Jonagold:  Perfect for baking.  It is a cross between a Golden Delicious and Jonathan.
  • *Honeycrisp: Super crisp with a sweet and tart finish.
  • *Macoun:  Originating in Geneva NY. This variety is usually only available in October and November.
  • *Braeburn: One of the top 5 varieties in the US.

What's your favorite baking apple?

Need a recipe to use these apples?
