After Allen Iverson twittered on his page that the Memphis Grizzlies offered him a contract, general manager Chris Wallace confirmed that the team has made thier first formal offer.
It is really sad to see that it has come to this for A.I., who is one of the game's best little men. There were talks last week of a reunion with former coach Larry Brown in Charlotte. Other teams that have been in conncection to the unrestrcited free agent include the Clippers and Heat.
By the looks of it now, Iverson will probably join Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, and the other greats to never reach NBA championship glory. As much as it pains me to say this, A.I. needs to swallow his pride and realize that winning a title is the most imporant thing and he may not be able to start. Going to a contender is the way to go. I would love seeing him go to the Spurs, Magic, etc. and backup Tony Parker or Jameer Nelon.
With the Grizzlies, on paper the lineup would be solid. Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo, and Allen Iverson. But is Iverson the right fit and put into account Randolph who is not a choir boy. The team would sell seats, but they also run the risk of stunting the growth of young players like Mayo and Mike Conley.
