Ah… feel that? It’s you, feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated after a yoga session. During these tough economic times, where everyone is feeling a bit more pressure, it is vey important to learn how to unwind and de-stress. Yoga is a great way to do it. Yoga focuses on the rhythmic quality of the breath, clearing out any distraction in the mind. Yoga also strengthens the connection between body and mind. It’s an easy way to de-stress, and any one can do it.

Start out with a beginning standing pose, such as tree pose. To begin, stand on your right foot and try to picture yourself as becoming grounded into the Earth – just like a tree! Bend your left knee out to the side and place the bottom of your left foot on either the inside of your right knee or the top of your right thigh. Lift the belly in and stand up straight. Once you feel balanced, lift your arms up until the palms touch above your head. Hold for 5–15 breaths and repeat on the other side.

Yoga is a great exercise to practice indoors and, since Newark hasn’t seen nice weather in what feels like forever, it’s a great time to pick up some yoga DVDs and give it a whirl. Try titles such as Yoga for Beginners, Yoga for Stress Relief  or Yoga for Every Body .
