Everyone wants to know, and many claim to have a magic potion, lotion, or cure, but which of these thousands of claims are actually effective? Only a few, Dr.’s say.

Meanwhile though, these top three “break-through” remedies are robbing women of millions of dollars a year in false hope:

1. Cellulite Cream. So sorry to say this, but there isn’t a cream, salve, or ointment on earth today that will penetrate the fatty deposits that sit underneath the surface of your skin. Topical applications of “clinically proven formulas” are all over magazines, television, and beauty supply stores, but none have proven effective.

2. Thermal Massage. Stimulating blood and lymph flow will somewhat smoothen the appearance for a short period of time, and it’s also quite good for you in the sense of detoxification, however, it will NOT rid you of cellulite. No matter how many hours you pay to lay there, hormones, diet, and lifestyle play to big of a factor in cellulite accumulation. An expensive massage just won’t cut it.

3. Liposuction. There is no needle nosed vacuum that could free you from this affliction. Don’t bother with the pain, and don’t shell out the dough; liposuction is a not the answer.

The only “cure” is prevention.  However, if it’s already found its way to your hips, thighs or abdomen, here is what you CAN do:

1. Exercise regularly. Keep blood and lymph flowing, and your heart pumping. Do not allow fat to sit quietly and accumulate, but rather build fat burning muscle.

2. Drop the cookie. Keep your weight down and adopt a fiber rich diet, high in fruits and vegetables.

3. Stop Smoking! Those who smoke have approximately 20% more cellulite than they would if they were non-smokers. (Yep; just one more reason to quit).

4. For Grade 3 Cellulite,(or, Severe Cellulite, which appears most often in those who are severely over weight, or who suffer from Diabetes), compression garments work well to increase circulation to fatty areas, and smooth the appearance of “Cottage Cheese Thighs” (or, “Cottage Cheese Rump”), although, these effects are only temporary.

Prevention is always easier that throwing the body into reverse; often times, there really is no going back. However, there is no real potential harm in cellulite, and keeping your body in optimal health will certainly help reduce the appearance, and accumulation of unwanted dimples.

Now, go have an apple.
