Have you been to the SoWa Open Market yet this season? Each weekend, May through October, this outdoor marketplace located in the heart of Boston's South End arts neighborhood showcases a diverse assortment of handmade art, home decor, clothing, jewelry, accessories, and more, all created by New England artists and artisans. The SoWa Open Market is also home to a world class antiques market, and several farmers and bakeries attend regularly with thier scrumptious treats.
Amongst the gathering of talented exhibitors that will be exhibiting this Sunday, August 30th (10am-4pm) is Massachusetts Artist, and Boston Handmade Member, Beth Brennick of Elizabeth Brennick Designs. Brennick sews a wide variety of useful and fashionable items such as children's clothing for boys and girls, women's attire upcycled from thrift shop finds, hair accessories with fabric and beads, bags, wallets, and eyeglass cases made from a fanciful assortment of fabrics and appliques, and lots of other creations for home and personal style.
Of her work Brennick says, "I love the ability to create things that pop up in my brain late at night when the world is sleeping. I love bright cheerful colors and large prints especially flowers for my fabrics. Another material I'm very giddy over is felt. Again, the various colors and textures give me the ability to sew my cutest creations... I love what I do. I get to wake up everyday to the sun shining, my sewing machine waiting for me, and my kids running down the stairs to see who gets to the bottom first." Her love for the materials and the works she designs is evident in her strong showing at every art fair and craft show she attends.
Be sure to find Beth Brennick this Sunday at the SoWa Open Market and you will be sure to walk away with a unique item to cherish for years to come.
