The Boston Open Studios season is still in full swing with two neighborhoods hosting events this weekend, November 7th and 8th. The Roslindale Open Studios, from 11am to 5pm both Saturday and Sunday, offers artists and the public a chance to connect with each other in a comfortable community setting. Local artists open the doors to their workplaces and homes; businesses and restaurants host shows and events; and out-of-town artists are hosted by the neighborhood at a large Group Show in Roslindale Village. Click HERE for maps and directions, and be sure to visit assemblage artist Kasey Davis Appleman at her home studio located at 9 Lindall Street.
Also this weekend is the Vernon Street Studios Open Studios event, from 12 to 6pm both days. The Vernon Street Studios is located at 6 & 20 Vernon Street in Somerville, click HERE for directions. This year Vernon Street celebrates 35 years of welcoming the public into artist workspaces. The historic studio building is located in a 19th century brick industrial building and Vernon Street was one of the first group of artists in the Greater Boston area to open their studios to the public in 1974. The Open Studios event allows attendees to learn about the creative process, interact with artists in the spaces where they create, purchase original artwork, and discover new talent. While there, don't miss seeing the artwork of Tova Speter on the 2nd floor of 6 Vernon Street. Speter's implements dazzling color combinations in her paintings that utilize found wood, and inspires her through the natural designs of the wood grain. Also check out work by painter Mary Mattei on the 6th floor of 20 Vernon Street where she will be showing her new encaustic paintings.
