Artists-at-Large has a new exhibition on view curated by organization Founder & President Thomas C. Seggers. The show is titled Car Toons and features assemblage art by Mary Hogan. On view through November 31st, the exhibition reception will be held this Saturday, November 7th from 6-8 pm with a gallery talk by the artist beginning at 7pm. This exhibition, as most of the Artists-At-Large events, is located at Riverside Theatre Works, 45 Fairmount Avenue in Hyde Park.
Mary Hogan is a Hyde Park resident who has found beauty and humor by the side of the road. An avid walker, Hogan regularly finds supplies for her assemblage art on her frequent strolls. Following in the folk art tradition of muffler men and auto part assemblage, she creates faces out of the broken parts she discovers between footfalls.
Hogan was an elementary school teacher for 15 years and is a world traveler. She has found inspiration for her work from her journeys, and from her work with children, "Young children are so straight forward and uncomplicated, they see things and express them as they are, working with them for so many years, it helps you to keep a clear, uncomplicated perspective on things as well."
This is one of Hogan's first exhibitions.
