Atlanta is now harvesting the Film and TV industry through new incentives. The Georgia Department of Economic Development has implemented State laws, since Jan 2008, designed to stimulate a business friendly environment for the entertainment industry. From huge tax cuts to the reformed Georgia Film Commission (GFC), any production budget exceeding half a million dollars can best benefit these reforms under the new “Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act.” With the efforts of the GFC geared towards connecting entertainment industry related contacts with filmmakers, it is easier for Georgia residents to find production jobs and build valuable networks. Since this act, Atlanta Productions companies have flourished into a proud mix of TV Networks, religious broadcasting and the widely known, Tyler Perry Studios.
Filmmakers with low budget productions, that don’t exceed a half million dollars, can still take advantage of the “Sales and Use Tax exemption.” This tax break allows production companies to get “on the spot tax exemptions by 8%” for sundry purchases by presenting proper tax cut forms when buying production materials. You can access these tax break forms clicking here.
The Georgia Film Commission is also quite eager to facilitate anyone who seeks to reach specific persons and resources that can engage film projects. Having dealt with them on many occasions, they are quite knowledgeable in aiding the legitimate means to shooting locations that one never thought to exist. Their GFC location-officers can also furnish photographs of locations that are already open for shooting. GFC can be reached at 404-962-4052.
