The recent murky and torrential weather is definitely affecting many New Yorkers this week. If it started raining meatballs, burgers or flavored ice creams that would certainly pick things up a bit – just like in Judi Barret’s celebrated book Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs which is easily becoming the must-watch film for the early fall season in the year.
Thanks to the folks at Ubisoft – and Sony Animation Studios – I recently had a chance to see the early clips and yet-to-be released trailer of the film – with some very spectacular video games attached to the invite. I have one word for everyone; amazing. Sony Animation is definitely setting up a high bar with the release of ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ and the audience – from the young kids to the adults – are in store for a great time at the movie theatres comes September.
In the film – just like in the book – a small town is affected by the sudden turn of the weather where food instead of rain starts pouring down on everyone. The animation details, the color and the talent behind the characters in the film are definitely remarkable. The story and the creative animation of the studio certainly prove that children’s book can become awe inspiring films – and perhaps an easy door to a child’s imagination (that also lives within many adults).
It is that sense of creativity and imagination that also exist within the minds of the people at Ubisoft – who have crafted the film’s official video game. The world in the game goes a little beyond the film – although carrying the same concept and storyline – offering more than 10 levels of playtime for the Sony Playstation and Nintendo Wii console. If I didn’t run to the nearest video store to buy one of the video consoles right away it’s because it was pouring cats and dogs – not literally – and was afraid that it would damage such nifty equipment. But I’ll wait until September when it is actually release - and go with the better viewing game definition that the Playstation version has to offer. Among the Sneak Peek of Ubisoft’s Video Games for Kids the newest Petz and Imagine series for the Nintendo DS console were showcased too – showing a range of new features and fun possibilities within the popular series. My favorite one is definitely the newest Petz Nursery and Petz Dog Talent Show – where the player can nurse its own puppy to a full grown dog in the Nursery version, teach them tricks and then send them to the Dog Talent Show version – via wi-fi – creating a whole new level of video game interface and between players.
The weather forecast calls for rain again - but I can’t wait for ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ to be released in the fall – a full review will certainly follow. But the kid in me can’t hardly even wait for the film’s official video game, the newest Petz and Imagine series that Ubisoft has also in store coming this Fall. Not that I want summer – that hasn’t even fully started – to end already but I can certainly wish.
