Virtual office, virtual worker, virtual job... really describes a change in how and where we work, that is, compared to conventional ways and places that work is accomplished.

Technically, many sales people, insurance agents, and various entrepreneurs work virtually. Not to over use the word but the first two for example, virtually may never work in a building, (a.k.a. brick-and-mortar) established by their employer. Self-employed people often work out of their home.

Another twist on virtual work is employers based in a building may hire virtual staff to run the business for them. Receptionists, other clerical people, project managers, or others may be located somewhere else or even their own home offices.

Many companies hire people in locations where the work or talent exists but the employer does not have or intend to have a physical location or address. Savings to the employer and reduced wear and tear on the employee is significant when all the stars align for such opportunities.

So who hires and operates virtually? How does one work virtually? What skills do you need?

Ah! It is a secret…no really follow this Virtual Office Examiner into the vast realms of virtuallity.
