If you've been wondering about the conditions for riding Mr. Toads, or the Flume Trail, or anywhere else up in the high country, due to the weather, fear not. A rider who was coming down from Mr. Toads on Saturday said that the conditions were "..great, just great." On a drive from Pollock Pines to Hwy 88, over 89, then down 50, Saturday, the biggest change that this writer noticed was that there was less dust to be kicked up. The were small patches of snow nestled on the north side of some slopes, and Round Top was coated nicely. The ride plate is full: Iron Mt. Road, Highway 88 from Iron Mt. Road to Markleeville, Highway 89 from 88 over Luther Pass, all of the terrain in Hope Valley, Big Meadow, all of it, is still ridable. It is still important to check the weather before you head out. Getting unexpectedly caught in the rain on the American River Bike Trail is a far different experience than getting caught on the Snow Mill Loop or on Mr. Toads. While the conditions are good, get out and ride. Any ride, of any length, road or mountain, is better than no ride at all.
