What do coffee and martinis have in common? They both have had a resurgence of popularity in the past decade. With the advent of specialty flavored vodkas, the basic vodka martini can take on an entirely new character as with this trendy and popular version.

If you do not happen to have an espresso maker, fresh brewed, double-strength coffee can be used. If you have difficulty finding espresso flavored vodka, plain or vanilla flavored can also be substituted.

The Recipe:

Espresso Martini

per martini you will need:

  • 1 oz brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1 1/2 oz. espresso vodka
  • 1 1/2 oz. Kahlúa
  • 1 oz. heavy cream (optional)

How to Make an Espresso Martini

  1. Chill martini glass.
  2. Place a large scoop of ice in a martini shaker.
  3. Add cooled espresso (or coffee), vodka, and Kahlúa.
  4. Shake well until well chilled and the metal shaker frosts.
  5. If desired, add cream and stir gently.
  6. Pour into chilled martini glass.
