Sony Corporation said Tuesday that it plans to market its new line of Vaio W netbooks here in the U.S.
Packing a 160GB harddrive, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth, VGA Out, 2x USB, MemoryStick/ SD Card reader, 802.11b/g/n, Windows XP and a webcam. The Vaio W, although average is boasting an XBRITE-ECO LED-Backlit 10.1 inch 1366 x 768 resolution display, which when compared to other netbooks only offering 1024 x 600 will add a bit of competition. The W will also be sporting a 3-Cell (optional 6-Cell) battery, and can expect between three and four hours of battery life. This new netbook with 86% smaller keyboard, bundled with the Sony's Vaio Media plus software will allow consumers to stream media and various content through DLNA compatible devices such as your PS3 or home computer.
Considered to be a quality built home based device, users and consumers alike can expect this 2.6 pound netbook to lack certain hardware options such as an SSD option, optical drive, 3G wireless and GPS. With an unknown August release-date and three possible color options, will the Vaio W boost Sony sales or flop to the growing competition? Discuss below.
The Sony Vaio W starting price will be $499, and is available for preoder now from Sony Style.
