Pagan culture and beliefs have always been deeply rooted all over the world-whether acknowledged or not. Throughout the centuries these cultures have been largely expressed through art and music. Over the years the metal community has been breathing new life into these practices, producing what is now know as Pagan Metal or Viking Metal.
The Pagan/Viking metal scene has largely increased worldwide, as eager pagan metalheads have hungrily awaited a public outlet to express both, their musical tastes and personal beliefs.
From songs about Nordic Gods to the Elements, many Pagan metal bands pull their musical inspiration straight from the old ballads and tales. With such a powerful combination behind this brutal music, there is no short supply of pitting, head banging and a general sense of high energy.
Many tours and festivals have sprouted in recent years as result of this growing metal music. These include both Pagan Fest and Pagan Nights tour which have done extremely well. Examples of some of the bands that have been a large inspiration in expanding the Pagan metal scene include: Amon Amarth, Tyr, Eluveitie and Suidakra. However these bands are by far, not the only ones who are out there helping this brutally inspirational metal grow and thrive.
With roots as deep as the Earth itself and reaching from the beginning of creation into present day, these rich traditions have secured their hold on the metal music scene and show no signs of letting go.
