This year will host the second annual Dallas Rocks 4 MS benefit, which was founded in 2008 by local bassist Michael Gomez (Earthrot) and his partner drummer Keith Wishon (Sik). Dallas Rocks 4 MS benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis society to help fund research, treatment and other support for individuals and families affected by the disease. In 2008 while with Subourne Michael Gomez received the news that the wife of Subourne guitarist had been diagnosed with the disease. After doing research about MS Michael decided that the best way to help would be to find ways to help support research; as there is currently no cure for the illness. So he called in friend and fellow musician Keith Wishon who was eager to help with the project. After contacting the local MS society office and getting all the necessary information, both musicians set out to gather an army of bands and volunteers.
After months of gathering sponsors, bands and volunteers Dallas Rockers 4 MS was born. What was originally planned as a small show became a huge two day event with a total of sixteen local bands, ranging from classic rock to death metal. Both nights brought out huge crowds and went on to heat up the night with music and prize raffles. MS society volunteers were on hand with information and high spirits. At the end of the weekend a total of over $4,000 was gathered, which was presented to the MS society later that week. In light of such success and the eagerness of the local metal scene to help out, 2009 will see DR4MS return. The current location is still pending however the bill has already been filled with ready bands. There will be bands from last year along with new bands and sponsors to the benefit.
This year the event will be held on September 25th and 26th. A few bands to be included are: Earthrot, Sik, Creeper, Southern Assault and American Lab Rat. A full list of bands and sponsors is listed on their web page along with information for the National MS Society.
