The Proenza Schouler collection may have been influenced by the duo's background in skating and surfing but what emerged was a lesson on light and texture and the most amazing nighlife collection for spring.
Metallics and sequence have long dominated the nightlife crowd of NYC but Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez just added a new element into this mix. What started as a development of tie dye actually ended in an evolvement of patterns with neon light affects and textured fringe on short flirty frocks. Beads and feathers hung heavy on loose dresses that were as rich as the colors featured on the runway.
The hair at Proenza Schouler was long and tossed while some models had blue or purple dye in just-out-of-bed hair. The make-up was pale and clear with some color around the eyes and lips to give a cold, underground look. The overall collection was the development of a new kind of punk in town. Zipped track jackets wound around the waist attached to tanks also added to the 80s concept that is no stranger to the spring collections in New York.
The accessories for Proenza Schouler continues to be a must-have with wedged, platform heels in multi-colors and chain strapped handbags carried as clutches. The handbags for spring were just as eccelectic as the clothes with chain handles, stripes and bright colors.
The Proenza Schouler collection was a fresh take amongst the spring collections and stands as the most ecclectic collection in New York much like the Marc Jacobs collection for spring 2009.
