One of the most anticipated shows of New York Fashion Week is the G-Star Raw show. There is always much chatter surrounding the show and attendance because the folks at G-Star always put on a well choreographed show while presenting the coolest in luxury and street gear. The show is, if anything, always entertaining and full of energy.
Expectations for a celebrity-clad front row was met as Alan Cumming, Mena Suvari, Jay and Shannon Leto, Lindsey Lohan, Kara DioGuardi, Tyson Beckford, Kat von D, Taylor Momsen, among many other celebrities, lined the multi-runway.
This season G-Star went light for spring. The collection stayed close to G-Star's well known blue color palette but white also dominated the runway with spots of green.
Traces of a 40s influence made way in the women's collection. Flirty dresses with swing factor bounced down the runway some matched with light overcoats. Bikini shorts with dress coats and military jackets were brought to high style with short lady gloves. When the collection tapped into its G-Star roots, the denim pants were boyish and loose, tapered in the leg or severely webbed to the knee shorts. Jumpers in white had military elements as did swimwear.
More tailored looks popped up throughout the men's collection with lengthy coats, vests, and jackets. A variety of shorts for spring were matched with blazers. The cut was a continuation from last season's silhouettes - loosely fit with some drop-crotch features or webbed to the knee and cuffed. Suits and pants were also tailored to a loose fit, some tapered at the leg loosely while suspenders continued the 40s influence in the collection.
Prints infused a bit of fun in the men's collection while the stripes cleverly styled with patterns on suited shorts made for a smart match.
