"A piece of cord wound around the body" was the beginning point for designers Thornton and Bregazzi when creating their Preen spring 2010 collection. The line was aggressive and feminine with heavy floral applique on skirts and dresses.
The "cord" theme was seen throughout the colleciton and worked well in slacks and suits. Shots of color ran throughout the stone colored collection -- in buttercream shoes, a pink cord amongst the neck details, and in full yellow and pink dresses and suits. The most commercial piece was a hot pink jumpsuit that has been on a few runways this season and in the exact pink color. Prediction: Pink will be more popular next spring than last.
The ripping and cutting elements derived from the 80s built its way onto the Preen collection but in a more controlled and trained manner. The ventilating aesthetics that has been rampant throughout almost every collection was made fresh at Preen. The collection was more structured when the lines were allowed to cross and trace frocks and pants.
Metallic treated slacks were also a highlight of the collection. When pulled into dresses, metallic elements added an edgier punch for those about towners who cannot do nightlife without the sparkly pieces that are a current obsession in New York.
This was the first season for shoes at Preen and they delivered muted grays, pink and yellow sandals with carved, wedged heels. The illusion of the continued cord running around the body can also be seen in the shoes as leather knotted along the fronts and around the ankles as well as partially leather covered frontals that cuffed around the ankle.
The collection was a fresher take on color, drapings, ventilating elements, and georgette florals.
