The amazing thing about the MTV Movie Awards is that it is the ultimate opportunity for celebrities to let their inner cool shine. It's the time when rockers can be rockers; hip hop heads can be hip hop; and the alternative folks can ... be alternative. The problem begins when there is no inner cool. If you don't fit in any of these categories - you bring your chic high-style or you flop, fizzle, make a major ill-impression on the red carpet.

Here are the hits and misses of last night's awards:
 

Hit:

1. F-F-F-F-Fox. And that's Megan Fox, who landed on the cover of this month's Elle, in a borderline rocker chick Dolce & Gabbana frock but the Christian Louboutin strappies seal the deal.

2. Taraji P. Henson who has successfully landed the rocker look with a tossed-chopped do, burlesque Roberto Cavalli frock, and a major statement ring. What was shocking was the wanting shoes. It was such a fun and sexy dress - Balenciaga or Gucci should have been on foot.

3. Leighton Meester in a Max Azria/Herve Leger-like well-vented, figure clinging dress and purple booties. ...Not so much effort is what's to love here.

4. Whether you love Cameron Diaz or not (what's not to love?), her style is all her own and she makes no apologies. She is a leader and never looks like she is trying too hard. She makes the hit list.

5. Briana Evigan chose a nude look that is definitely a hit. Very covered but still sexy - her dark features pull off this look.

Miss:

1. Vanessa Hudgens' figure is not quite grown up to pull off the BCBG sheath and Jimmy choo shoes. She looked like she was in her big sister's clothes.
 

 

 

 

Lauren Conrad at the MTV Movie Awards last night, May 31, 2009.

2. Lauren Conrad looked fabulous ... until your eyes fall on the shoes. Shoes are such a major part of one's ensemble there is just no forgiving her for those dated and mismatched shoes.
 

 

Kristen Stewart at the MTV Movie Awards last night, May 31, 2009.

3. Actress Kristen Stewart. Do not misunderstand - it is not that one cannot match a pair of Chucks with a dress. It just cannot be done with that dress and those Chucks. She must have found out about the awards show 30 minutes prior.
 

 

Abigail Breslin at the MTV Movie Awards last night, May 31, 2009.

4. As much as cutie-pie Abigail Breslin is loved; she looks so out of place in this dated rocker look. The shoes are way too much for the doll face actress. It should have been suggested for her to swap shoes with Taraji or Lauren Conrad.

5. I'm not sure what circumstance brought these two together for a photo but their like-minded ensembles were both a mess. Rumer Willis is less successful in the geometric frock; she could not pull it off.

6. Twilight star Elizabeth Reaser's shoes popped just before entering the red carpet last night and the only replacements available were these wedges found in the trunk of her car. This can only be the reason for such hideous shoes.
