G-Star Raw Fall 2009

If you are looking for dainty and feminine, see Nanette Lepore. If you want refined and accutely fashion conscious for men, Calvin Klein might be the designer for you. If you want clever in design, ferocious in functional intent, dangerously active and not-to-be-[expletive]-with, G-Star Raw conquers all.

G-Star Raw cited the collection as G-Star NY Raw but a new world order is what actually played out. G-Star is getting ready for a movement, for a unified purpose, for a global goal and you best not get left behind. The pieces you will need: individual emergency lift off gear; multi purpose aviator jackets; convertible coats with function specific pockets; easy evening transition wear (tuxedo jackets formalizes any ensemble); evening ready as well as Antarctica-tested gear. No matter how you cut it, you better be ready for some action or at least look like you are.

The G-Star Raw show was filled with an anxious energy of a coming order. There was not a shred of pretentious purpose as G-Star Raw continued to evolve the fearless international urban set. If you are looking for pieces to apply to your wardrobe, the complete collection of tough outerwear is phenomenal and the denim and the leather pants with drop crotch and multi zipper details are standout pieces for the winter 09/10 season.

Benicio Del Toro G-Star Raw Fall 2009
Benicio Del Toro cites "Candidate" by Joy Division at the
G-Star Raw fall 2009 show in New York.

It was a heavy collection. Before the models' came down the runway for an encore and to recap all the looks before the show closed, Benicio Del Toro made an appearance reading Joy Division's "Candidate". Were the G-Star Raw designers trying to tell us something? Here are the lyrics. You decide...

Candidate
Forced by the pressure

The territories marked

No longer the pleasure

Oh, I've since lost the heart

Corrupted from memory

No longer the power

It's creeping up slowly

That last fatal hour

Oh, I don't know what made me

What gave me the right

To mess with your values

And change wrong to right

Please keep your distance

The trail leads to here

There's blood on your fingers

Brought on by fear

I campaigned for nothing

I worked hard for this

I tried to get to you

You treat me like this

It's second nature

It's what we've been shown

We're living by your rules

That's all that we know

I tried to get to you (4).
