Adam by Adam Lippes jumper
Adam by Adam Lippes silk, wrap jumpershorts; $345 at Barneys

Now is the time to begin planning out your spring/summer wardrobe. Adding a few current pieces to your wardrobe is something you should do every season. The economy is tight but there are a few things you can squeeze in for purchase to appear very now. Below are some updates you can make to your wardrobe to keep you feeling modern and new. You may not be able to add every item to your closet but you can pick and choose a few. Spring is right around the corner, the earlier you get started the better you will feel come July. These trendy pieces are flying off the "shelf" online causing items to be listed as sold out already.

Here  are some ideas to get you started.

  1. Rompers, playsuits, jumpershorts are some of the names for this flattering piece ... if you still have a slender girlish figure. Throw a romper over your swimsuit or for walking over to the West Side Pier for a bit of sun. The most adorable pair is a silk wrap jumpsuit by Adam by Adam Lippes at Intermix.

Alexander Wang Skinny jeans
Alexander Wang zip embellished skinny jeans; $375 at netaporter.com
  1. Skinny Jeans have been in for, it seems, ever. Now update your bland skinny collection with a pair featuring zips, studs, or other kinds of embellishments or a pair in the new "it" textures - stonewash or lace overlay. Alexander Wang skinny jeans with zip detailing along the side are a sight for envy. Also a-must are a pair of black stonewash skinnies. Pair these jeans with hard edge platform sandals to accomplish a rocker look.

If you have been living under a rock or out West somewhere you might not have noticed that the next two trends are major must-haves for the coming seasons.

Helmut Lang jumper
Helmut Lang V-neck twill jumpsuit; $460 at netaporter.com
  1. Jumpers were found on almost every runway for spring 2009. No matter the occassion or the time - day or evening - every designer has put their spin on the half a century long design. Helmut Lang and Barbara Bui designed jumpsuits that will travel well between day and night. Pair them with gladiators or flat sandals for day and then throw on a pair of Casadei strappies for evening.

American Retro harem pants
American Retro silk harem pants; $225 at Intermix
  1. The harem pant, or drop crotch pant, is the new cropped shorts this spring. They come in both pant and short form. Pictured is a drop crotch, cropped pants by American Retro at Intermix. The stone wash version of this big trend stands out from all the rest.

Stella McCartney sequin tights
Stella McCartney degrade sequin leggings; $1495 at netaporter.com
  1. A sequin piece - top or bottom - is still en mode this season but a sequin bottom reveals a more avant garde personality. Gryphon designs a mini with mesh details (pictured in the slideshow below) at 25Park.com. Pair your sequin pieces with a silk racer back top. It would be a stunning combination for evenings at 1Oak if paired with the Stella McCartney dégradé sequin legging at Netaporter.com.

Barbara Bui
  1. Boyfriend blazers or oversized jackets bring a hint of 80s flair to a short frock or that sequin mini in item 5. Whether you are on a budget or not, hit up your nearest consignment store. Do not forget Salvation Army, you will find great retro pieces fully equipped with shoulder pads and still very current for today.

Barbara Bui also designs a metallic silver blazer that is great for any spring occassion.

Helmut Lang crop pants
Helmut Lang silk peg leg; $290 at SaksFifthAve.com
  1. High waisted, pleat front cropped pants will be causing a stir this spring. These pants can also be paired with the oversized jacket (item 6) for a day at the office.

Banana Republic long dress
Banana Republic Luxe dress, $275
  1. Lily long dresses will continue to be spotted on the chic SoHo shopper this spring.

Louis Vuitton belt and neckpiece

  1. Sequin or metallic belts that can go around your waist several times á la Louis Vuitton spring 09 runway. Although the Louis Vuitton belts were not wrapped several times, there is an appearance of several belts with an additional tie. Throw your belt over your blazer (see item 6) and sequin skirt (see item 5) to capture the look.

Haleh sequin T dress
Haleh sequin dress; $285 at 25Park.com
  1. Cop a sheer or sequin T-like dress for the ultimate spring/summer dress. The T dress is a casual frock for long drives to the beach or summer homes. It should have a loose fit and if it dons the image of past rockers like Doors singer, Jim Morrison, or Pat Benetar - 10 points.
