William Rast Fall 09
William Rast fall 2009

Never mind that the Marc Jacobs show was in the next hour, the tents were packed with editors, celebrities, stylists, fashion goers and crashers Monday night ready to see the William Rast show ... or was it to catch a glimpse of Justin? Whatever the draw, the William Rast design team developed the motif we all fell in love with last year - country meets city rocker.

Carine Roitfeld, Anna Wintour, a proud Jessica Biel in a William Rast jacket from the same runway, and Anthony Anderson were a few of the big names à devant when the show began uncharacteristically (to Fashion Week) on schedule. A large flag with black stripes hung in the backdrop of the runway, no stars. The theme was "New America" - denim, motorcycle jackets, and fringe boots were the base for this "New America" and patchworks; silver and gold hardware details; black acid wash; fringe; and zipper embellishments rocked out the otherwise country looks.

"The DNA of William Rast is grounded in the American iconography of American denim heritage and biker culture but is re-packaged and presented in a contemporary context. The William Rast Fall Winter 2009 expression draws upon inspiration from American classic movies of Rumble Fish and Thelma & Louise. The black and white biker culture from Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece influenced not only the simplistic and monochromatic yet dusty palette but also set the attitude of the outerwear and leather pieces..." --The William Rast team

It was very Thelma & Louise brought to the 21st Century. Leather jackets filled with zips and fringe detailing wildly painted colors of rugged edge to the collection. With striped emblems on loose Tees tucked into denim skirts, the William Rast collection made all the New York girls in the audience want to add a bit of country to their wardrobes this fall. The embroidered jackets and studded jeans are anxious to land in the closets of the downtown girls; and the plaid shirts in the hands of the downtown boys.

For evening there were silk and tuxedo jackets for the men paired with acid wash black jeans or leather pants. For the women - studded or embroidered jackets in tuxedo form matched with sheer tops and black front jeans.

The collection certainly inspires one to pack up their overnight bags and go on a road trip across the country this September and stop at all the fabulously relaxed party locations on the way.
