Fall 2009 Designer Sketches

How yummy! A glimpse of the Fall 09 collections from some high names in shoes as well as some budding shoe designers. This is such a treat because a complete preview of the the coming season's shoe collections is rarely released until the first Fashion Week (New York). If we could only receive the same treatment given to the ready to wear collections on the shoe collections. Until then, this feature reads like an expose and, I hope, is a real delight.

 What can we expect in shoe trends? The biggest trend to occur in 08 was the continued growth of high heels from (at one time) 4-4.5 inches to 7.5 inches a la Christian Louboutin with platforms - hidden and featured; chunky heels; or sculptured heels - there is no sign of the trend fading out with 2008. This is to be expected since a few years ago flat shoes surged the market teaching us that what goes up must indeed come down. Giuseppe Zanotti and Moschino continue to push the envelope with these uber high heel sketches.

 Although the concepts on paper is usually a bit different from what is actually realized, this preview is a little something to wet your palate.

Omelle is the designer shoe name of which to make note. Their current collection is brilliant and fit for a New Yorker. The sketch featured will probably translate to the actual design very closely. Cherise Angelle and Nicole LaFave state that they "have created a partnership dedicated to serving the sophisticated shopper, a lady who not only speaks in style but continually lives in it". Indeed. The collection is available online with a very cool site ... once you figure it out. I highly suggest you check these designers out.

 Raphael Young wants to carve his bit of the market with a Marc Jacobs' Fall 08-competing sketch. The young shoe design house is based in Paris and has materialized for Manish Arora. Through his designs you can see he is a true architect in shoes with heavy influences from Early Modern France, the late 16th Century period in his designs.

Texan designer, Nicole Brundage, aims to claim the title for girliest pumps with this sketch and probably a better design compared to her past collections. She describes her designs as "ultra-modern", no, with an "austere finish", yes. She has collaborated with Zac Posen, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Manolo Blahnik.

Chrissie Morris may give Stuart Weitzman competition with this formal shoe sketch. The sketch is unlike her designs that are very similar to shoe designer, Due Farina - heavy structural designs, cone-like heels; and robust materials.  It will be interesting to keep an eye out on how this sketch is realized.
 

The concept for Upper Echelon Shoes' sketch is simple with clean elegant lines, a touch of edgy detailing with hardware applied, and very European. This would be a perfect casual shoe to put on your seasonal shopping list. The design house creates street footwear.
 

Guillaume Hinfray is a French shoe designer, not quite mainstream but this is the beauty of their line. The detailing on the back of Guillaume Hinfray's bootie sketch is exquisite. If those are peep toe booties, they will definitely make a splash on the market come August.
