One of the top shopping destinations on Black Friday is not the nearest Best Buy, it is not Fortunoff, or Bloomingdales. It is actually the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, New York.

Stores open on Friday at midnight, and remain open through the end of the weekend. Some stores open as early as 9pm on Thanksgiving Day. So, if you are tough enough to brave the wickedest of the wicked fashion fanatics and deal hunters, and I mean elbows and knees - people were fighting on the Thruway last Black Friday - make it down to the Premium Outlets. It is totally worth it!

To get an idea of the sales going on, last year, my most expensive buys were a pair of Fendi pumps for $124 and a Tadashi Shoji gown for $99.

Last year, Black Friday fell on one of the coldest nights of the year. Traffic was jammed pack along the New York State Thruway where people sat for 3 or 4 hours. Helpful hint: Set out to leave for the Outlets as early as 10PM to beat the parking lot that the Thruway will soon become. Happy shopping!

Best Sale Stops

Designer Fashions - Calvin Klein, Banana Republic, Gap (usually has a rap around line of customers waiting to enter, as does French Connection, Chanel, and Banana Republic stores), Kenneth Cole and G-Star Raw.

Housewares and Home Furnishings - Mikasa, William Sonoma, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Ralph Lauren Home Factory, Crate & Barrel.

Other must-stop-shops - KB Toy, L'Occitane, and Bose.
