Now that the sun has finally come out and the snow has melted, it definately feels more like Spring.  Why not celebrate the start of April and National Poetry Month by attending an event at a local bookstore or library ?  Low on cash?  Most of these events are free.  Need a last minute Easter gift?  Autographed books make excellent presents.  As usual, I've compiled a list of events around the Seattle metro area for the week of April 6th.  Happy reading!

   Monday, April 6th

Elliot Bay Book Company: Phyllis Levin will discuss her book of poetry, May Day at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Town Hall Seattle:  Philosophy professor Alva Noe will read from and sign his book Out of Our Heads: Why You Are Not Your Brain, and Other Lessons from the Biology of Consciousness at 7:30 p.m. ($5).
Tuesday, April 7th
Elliot Bay Book Company: Shilpa Agarwal will read from her debut novel, Haunting Bombayat 7 p.m. (free).
Third Place Books (Lake Forest Park): O. Alan Weltzien will read from his book A Father and an Island at 7 p.m. (free).
Town Hall Seattle:  Environmentalist Dr. David Suzuki will sign and discuss his book The Big Picture: Reflections on Science, Humanity, and a Quickly Changing Planet at 7 p.m. ($10).
Wednesday, April 8th
Seattle Mystery Bookshop: Author William Dietrich will sign his thriller The Dakota Cipher at noon (free).
Third Place Books (Lake Forest Park): Author William Dietrich will sign his thriller The Dakota Cipher at 7 p.m. (free)
University Book Store (University District): Author Curtis Ebbesmeyer will read from and sign his book Flotsametrics and the Floating World: How One Man's Obsession with Runaway Sneakers and Rubber Ducks Revolutionized Ocean Science at 7 p.m. (free)
Elliot Bay Book Company: Local ordained Episcopal priest Lucas Mix will discuss his his new book, Life in Space: Astrobiology for Everyone at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Thursday, April 9th
Seattle Public Library (Central Library): Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent Thomas E. Ricks. Thomas Ricks discusses The Gamble: General Petraeus and the American Military Adventure in Iraq, 2006-2008 at 7 p.m. (free).
Third Place Books (Lake Forest Park): Stephen Wangen will discuss his book Healthier Without Wheat at 7 p.m. (free). 
University Book Store (University District): Get Gardening with Jeff Lowenfels Teaming with Microbes: A Gardener's Guide to the Soil Food Web. He will sign and discuss his book at 7 p.m. (free).
Town Hall Seattle: Doug Finewill discuss and sign his book Farewell, My Subaru: An Adventure in Local Living at 7:30 p.m. ($5).
Friday, April 10th
Seattle Public Library (Central Branch): Joe Raiola speaks on 'The Joy of Censorship ', a provocative program on the First Amendment and the history of MAD Magazine, at 10 a.m. (free).
Third Place Books (Lake Forest Park): Iris Graville & Summer Moon Scriver will discuss their book Hands at Work at 6:30 p.m. (free).
Elliot Bay Book Company: Seattle writer Midge Raymond will read from her debut collection of stories, Forgetting English at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Saturday, April 11th
Third Place Books (Lake Forest Park): Sophie and John Javna will discuss their book The New 50 Simple Things Kids Can Do to Save the Earth at 11 a.m (free).
Seattle Mystery Bookshop:  Carola Dunn will sign her book Manna from Hades at noon (free).
Seattle Public Library (Central Branch): Seattle Reads panel: "Huck Finn: In or Out of School" will take place at 2 p.m. Two teachers, two students, and a parent discuss the merits and challenges of teaching Huckleberry Finn in the schools (free).
Elliot Bay Book Company: Author Mahmood Mamdani will read from Saviors and Survivors at 3 p.m. (free)
Third Place Books (Lake Forest Park):  Sharol Louise will discuss her historical romance novel Secret Bride at 6:30 p.m. (free).
