Unless you are a book lover, the library isn't always the most romantic place movies and television shows make it out to be (that scene in the romance languages in Party Girl with Parker Posey and her boyfriend kills me every time). Despite the fact dark corners and cozy nooks are often few and far between, couples are apparently drawn to the library for love. Recently, a Glamour dating blogger dished on her date at the library.
I realize this sounds very bookworm-ish of me, but my favorite cheap date was actually free--a trip to our local library. On a particularly rainy day in L.A., my date surprised me at my door with one umbrella, two library cards and a Ziploc bag of dimes.
Their date consisted of photocopying quizzes from a book and taking them. It is kind of a cute idea even though it is not my ideal cheap date. Perhaps since I spend the majority of my dayin the library, a date there isn't my first choice. This isn't to say that I wouldn't go to the library on a date. There are often free films and lectures and author events at public and university libraries.
Libraries aren't the only place to go on a cheap literary date. In my experience bookstores (both used and chain) are great places to go on a date, especially a first date. It allows one to not only get to know their date, but it also allows them to get a glimpse as to what might be on their date's bookshelf at home. At the very least it's a nice, quiet (and safe) place to grab a cup of coffee and to ease any awkwardness.
