I think cats are a prerequisite for most used bookstores.  Twice Sold Tales in Seattle is no exception to this rule.  In fact  I think I have only come across a few stores without furry friends a handful of time in recent memory.  Twice Sold Tales quite possibly has the most cats I've ever seen in a bookstore.  At the Capitol Hill location I've counted at least five cats.  The same goes for their location in the University District.  I swear there's a cat in every nook, corner, or window.

Twice Sold Tales is probably my favorite used bookstore chain in Seattle.  They easily boast the best selection of books.  Each location has it's own personality.  The new Capitol Hill store is a house that has been converted into a bookstore.  It is full of little rooms perfect for reading and browsing.  The store in the University District feels like your grandmother's basement.

In terms of selection, all the stores carry the same genres.  The Capitol Hill location has a much better selection of romance novels than the University District, but the University District has a better selection of books by the Beat writers.  I haven't been to the Queen Anne location, but from what I understand their general selection is smaller than the Capitol Hill and University District stores.

Know Before You Go:

Twice Sold Tales does not accept returns, so make sure you absolutely need and love the book before you walk out the door.  On that note, if you want to sell your books to make some extra money you need to make an appointment first.  Unfortunately one cannot just walk in and sell their books; however, they always accept trades.  The best deals are often on the discount book trucks.  There are usually fifty or so titles under two dollars waiting for you to take them home.  Also, make sure to check the new arrivals shelf, you never know what you might find.  In December I found a brand new copy of Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler on the new arrivals shelf at the Capitol Hill store.  I am still kicking myself for not grabbing it when I could because it was only eight bucks.

They do accept credit cards.
