
Hopefully you've survived the holidays and the epic snowstorms and are ready to venture out into the January thaw. If this is the case, there are a number of events at libraries and bookstores around Seattle to keep you busy or at least jump start your New Year's resolution to read more books.
Monday, January 5th:
Town Hall Seattle: Author Melissa Rossi will discuss and sign her book What Every American Should Know About the Middle East at 7:30 p.m. ($5).
Seattle Public Library (Central Library): Internationally acclaimed Chinese writer Mo Yan will read from and discuss his works with Christopher Lupke, associate professor of Chinese, Washington State University, and other panelists from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. (free).
Tuesday, January 6th:
Seattle Mystery Bookshop: Mystery author Jayne Ann Krentz will sign her book Running Hot at noon (free).
University Book Store (University District): Author Jay Spenser will sign his book The Airplane at 7 p.m. (free).
Town Hall Seattle: Dr. William Hanson will discuss his book The Edge of Medicine at 7:30 p.m. ($5).
Elliot Bay Book Company: Author Nami Mun will discuss her debut novel Miles From Nowhere at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Wednesday, January 7th:
Seattle Public Library (Ballard Branch): Local cartoonist David Lasky will present a slide show and information about major cartoonists from the Pacific Northwest to kick off a month of Comixtravaganza events at the Seattle Public libraries at 6:30 p.m. (free).
Elliot Bay Book Company: Poet Thomas Aslin will read from his book A Moon Over Wings and poet Laurie Blauner will read from her book Wrong at 7:30 (free).
Thursday, January 8th:
University Book Store (University District): Author Michelle Kleisath will read from and sign her book Heavy Earth, Golden Sky: Tibetan Women Speak at 7 p.m. (free).
Third Place Books (Bothell): Author Sondra Kornblatt will discuss her book Better Brain at Any Age at 7 p.m. (free).
Eagle Harbor Book Company (Bainbridge Island): Mystery author will read from his novel The Hidden Man at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Elliot Bay Book Company: Readings of work in progress from writers Felicia Gonzalez, Susan Meyers, and Ghida Sinnot will take place at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Saturday, January 10th:
Seattle Public Library (Green Lake Branch): Poets West offers programs with open mike poetry sessions on the first three Saturdays in January from 4 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. (free).
