Due to the recent outbreak of fires in the Phinney Ridge and Greenwood neighborhoods, the Greenwood Branch of the Seattle Public Library will lock it's book drop boxes during the hours the library is closed. The book drop will remain open while the branch is open.
If this causes the books to accrue a late fee, the Phinneywood news blog suggests patrons check with a library staff member about waiving fines.
The Greenwood Library is open
1-8 p.m. Monday-Tuesday
10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday
10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Friday-Saturday
12-5 p.m. Sunday
On Monday morning an arson was reported at the Greenwood Quickstop at Greenwood Avenue and 81st Street across from the Greenwood Library. In the last few weeks, fires have affected many businesses in the area, including the Taproot Theatre which had smoke and water damage after a nearby restaurant was set on fire in October. There is a $25,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the Greenwood arsonist(s).
