Don't mess with librarian Josie Parker. The Ann Arbor (Michigan) district library director chased down a thief who took off with a box of money collected for a local charity called the Family Book Club from the bookstore where she was volunteering with a gift wrap program that benefits the book club. The thief got away, but not with the money.
The attempted theft happened around 9:30 p.m. at an East Ann Arbor Borders bookstore. Parker took after the thief when he snatched the donation box containing less than $150 while she was wrapping gifts. The thief tripped in front of her and dropped the box of money. Parker fractured her tibia in the pursuit.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 20's and about 6 feet tall. He had a beard and was wearing a black and white flannel shirt and a green jacket and cap. He has not been caught.
All the money was recovered from the scene and donated to the Family Book Club which provides books and other educational services and programs to low-income families and to people in jail.
Did you know librarians were so bad-ass? After all, Batgirl was a librarian.
