I am not making this up.  It looks like David Beckham, the soccer star better known as Becks or Mr. Posh Spice, is about to join the "Celebrity Author Club" alongside Geri Halliwell (formerly known as Ginger Spice), Madonna, and Jamie Lee Curtis.  Beckham is going to launch a series of children's books aimed at seven year-olds about his soccer academy.

The David Beckham Academy opened in 2005 and has locations in the United Kingdom and Los Angeles.  It offers soccer programs and camps for boys and girls ages 5-14.

The first book in the series will be released in June 2009 and has not been titled.  According to the publishers, Beckham will not actually write the books.

I guess this really doesn't qualify him as a celebrity author, it'll just be part of his brand.  But if it gets kids excited about reading, I'm all for it.
