William Jefferson's trial defense is using a four pronged approach

disputing the prosecutions use of the Lori Mody tapes as evidence saying that Lori Mody was

coached and trained over a series of meetings with FBI on how

to cast  William Jefferson in the worst of light.They want the right to

dissect their own series of tapes that show Lori Mody and William Jefferson

having meetings in which alot of alcohol is being consumed.Many laws

and  taped confessions are not admissable in court if  one or both of the

parties are under the influence of alcohol.William Jefferson and Lori Mody

had a meeting over dinner which cost over $1200 and several bottles of wine

were consumed by both parties.

The defense is prepared to argue that once Jefferson became the FBI's target, Mody, carefully coached by the FBI, manipulated

Jefferson in ways that would make a selective hearing of their taped conversations appear most incriminating.
