RNC Chairmain Michael Steele sent an email blast to the GOP mailing list this morning that solicits donations and signatures on an e-petition demanding that Democratic legislators "get back to work".

Mentioned in the email is Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC), who angered Democratic congressmen and senators during President Obama's speech on his health care initiatives by yelling "You lie!" when the President spoke about insurance coverage for illegal immigrants.  The House voted Tuesday to formally admonish Wilson for his outburst.

The email attributes cynical political calculation to the Democratic push for censure--

In another stunning example of hypocrisy, congressional Democrats wasted taxpayers' time and resources on a legislative measure to censure Congressman Joe Wilson so they don't have to talk about their exceedingly unpopular health care plan.

The email then calls for similiar apologies from a list of Democratic politicians that, due to questionable actions and statements, particularly rankle members of the GOP base: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Charlie Rangel (D-NY), Jack Murtha (D-PA) and William Jefferson, convicted felon and former Democratic congressman.  This same sentiment echoes an RNC press release posted Tuesday.

The email accuses Democrats of using the censure as a ruse to deflect attention from President Obama's health care initiative--

The truth -- the Democrats don't want an apology. They want a side show (sic) -- something to shift the focus away from their government-run experiment on health care.

The statement concludes with an exhortation to sign an online petition and, of course, a call for donations.
