How many resumes have you submitted on-line? How many resumes have you faxed? How many hours were spent completing preliminary tests? How many interviews has this lead to? Have you ever attended a Career or Job Fair?
I attended the Accounting, Financial and Payroll Professionals Meet and Greet Resource fair today. This was different from a career fair because it was more of a networking meeting directed toward finance and accounting. The consensus: it is wise to start networking while employed, establishing relationships so you are prepared if the worst should happen.
This event was hosted by the Institute of Management Accountants at Jobing.com's headquarters on 22nd street. There were schools, other associations and employment agencies on site.
Objective
The whole idea of looking for a new job is to get an interview-right? "You want the opportunity to meet 'face to face' with an employer. That's the object of a job fair or an event such as this one." Monika Masciangelo, a Community Relations Manager at Jobing.com.
Face it, in this market any interview is making progress. The agencies at this event and typically at Job fairs have temporary hires, full-time hires and temporary that turns into full time jobs. People were getting interviews on the spot.
Next Job Fair
The Jobing.com arena, is still home, to the Coyotes and this is Jobing.com's home although they're growing into other states. Their next job fair is Wednesday August 12th at the University of Phoenix at 1 Cardinals Drive. There will be workshops and a number of employers and employment agencies interviewing. Take your shot when you can get it.
