For the fashionista on a budget
The economy is hurting, I think we have all felt it, but that doesn’t mean that you have to look shabby at the same time. Everywhere is having sales, pre-sales, and almost all stores are just looking to sell the overstock that buyers are worried about!
Almost all designers are giving back to the public and reacting to the public’s call of desperation because many of our 401K’s are completely shot, as well as stocks gone, and with so much red on the board, it is hard to think about anything else, and who can blame you?!
When times were tough, famous designer and fashion icon, Coco Chanel used jersey and whatever other fabrics she could find that were inexpensive and worked with what she had to give the public fashion at a comfortable price and feeling. Chanel added little touches of lace or a few exquisite buttons to make perfect and very in style fashions. Coco took a situation and made the best of it. Take a note from her history, she didn’t accept that there was nothing she could do, instead she took what she could and made masterpieces from it.
Work within your means, being fashionable doesn’t mean going broke; shop at discount stores like TJ Maxx, Ross or Burlington Coat Factory if you can’t find a good buy at the department stores. They have better than the average brands and at a price that doesn’t break the bank. It is not like you have to wear a price tag around your neck that says, “Hey I got this at a bargain shop”, and even if someone finds out or knows, who cares, you still look fabulous, and have money left over for a Starbucks! We can all appreciate being in a tight spot. Also, why not trying getting into your closets? Reach in the very back of them, and find some treasures you didn’t know you have. Almost everyone has pieces that they forgot about because they bought them so long ago. Check and see what pieces you have before going shopping, and create mental visions as to what you could add to your already existing pieces and make a grocery store list but instead of veggies, put fashion items on it. This is to help you keep in mind what you are looking for and most likely you will be able to find it faster. Focus on select trends that are within your budget, like buying pendant accessories and patterned tights and wearing them with a grey sweater dress you already have, add an oversized bangle, and you’re ready to go. Taking what you have and working with it never goes out of style and it is ALWAYS fashionable. If you have it, WORK IT!
