Assuming that you don't have a violent reaction to the mention of Age of Conan, you may be interested in FunCom's next project, which contains a number of factors I had not previously expected to ever see in the MMO space.

The Secret World is early in development, but it's set in the modern day, has a character development path that doesn't rely upon levels, and apparently involves hacking Lovecraftian monsters to death with swords. At least one of these things is likely to be of interest to somebody.

MMORPG.com is all over this story at the moment, with a two-part interview with Ragnar Tornquist, the game's producer and director. If you're a former AoC player, the interview might be worth checking out just on that basis.
