
CBS had the top four shows of the evening with each winning their time slot. Placing first overall for the night was ‘60 Minutes' which received a 5.7 rating, second overall was ‘Million Dollar Password’ which received a 4.2 rating, third overall was ‘Cold Case' which received a 4.1 rating, and fourth overall was 'Without a Trace' which received a 3.8 rating.
NBC’s top rated program of the night was ‘Dateline NBC’ which received a 3.5 rating, but placed second in its time slot to '60 Minutes'. A two hour block of the new summer series ‘Merlin’ received a 2.8 rating for the first hour but then fell to a 2.6 rating for the second hour. 'Law & Order: SVU' finished out the night for NBC weakly receiving a 2.6 rating and placing last in its time slot.
ABC's strongest show of the night was the two hour conclusion of the miniseries 'Impact'. It placed second behind CBS shows for both hours receiving a 2.7 rating for the first hour and a 2.8 rating for the final hour. The hour block of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' and 'Just for Laughs' were the next highest for ABC averaging a 2.6 rating. Lastly, 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' took third in its time slot with a 2.5 rating.
FOX's night of half-hour comedies were victorious only over The CW's programming of 'Valentine' and the movie 'Larger Than Life' with Bill Murray. The first hour of 'King of the Hill' and 'American Dad' averaged a 1.3 rating; the second hour of 'The Simpsons' and 'King of the Hill' averaged a 1.8 rating; and the third hour of 'Family Guy' and 'American Dad' averaged a 2.2 rating.
Overall, CBS won the evening averaging a 4.4 rating, followed by NBC with a 2.9 rating, then ABC with a 2.6 rating, and FOX with a 1.8 rating. The CW was last averaging a dismal 0.5 rating.
