Each week I will be endeavoring to list new productions opening around the Twin Cities. With such an abundance of companies and venues in the area, keeping track of openings can be a challenge. I'm almost certain to miss a few, but I'll link whatever I can find. Provided descriptions are reprinted from production websites.

Opening July 2nd
Girl Friday Productions: The Skin of Our Teeth
The Ice Age, The Great Flood, The World War... the Antrobus Family has survived through eons of calamity with their hope intact. Join us for a fresh take on Wilder’s optimistic and lively tribute to the invincible human spirit. Directed by Benjamin McGovern, The Skin of Our Teeth will showcase Girl Friday’s signature ensemble approach, featuring a dynamic cast of Twin Cities’ veterans and newcomers. Runs at the Minneapolis Theater Garage through 07/25.

Opening July 3rd

Theatre in the Round Players: Room Service
A brash but broke producer and his pals are holed up in a Times Square hotel room, rehearsing what they think will be a smash hit and cooking up schemes to get a backer. But they better work fast — 19 hungry actors keep ordering food and the bill for room service alone will close the show before it opens. This classic screwball comedy from the ’30s flies along on snappy banter, throwaway lines, sight gags, and a fast-moving parade of characters. Runs through 08/02.

Opening July 4th

Guthrie Theater: When We Are Married (Previews 07/04 – 07/09)
Set on a September evening around 1908, J.B. Priestley's farcical comedy takes place in the sitting-room of Alderman Helliwell's house. Old friends - the Helliwells, the Parkers and the Soppitts - gather to celebrate the three couples' silver wedding anniversaries. Gerald Forbes, the chapel organist and choir master, has been courting the Helliwells' niece Nancy a bit too conspicuously. But when Gerald is chastised for his behavior, he riles up the party, revealing a shocking truth to these uptight Edwardian gentlemen. The secret spreads and soon each couple's relationship is rigorously and hilariously tested to its limit. Runs through 08/30.
