Brock Lesnar's post-fight behavior has rocked the MMA world. MMA fans and purists are calling for Lesnar's head. Most of them think that Lesnar disgraced the sport. But is Lesnar the only one to blame for his post-fight behavior?
Yes, every man is responsible for his own actions but I think Dana White is partially to blame for Brock Lesnar's behavior and here's why.
Dana White marketed "Lesnar vs. Mir 2" as Lesnar getting his revenge. The fight was hyped on Lesnar's chance to avenge his only MMA loss.
Lesnar admits to being competitive to a fault. He's spent the last year thinking about beating Mir especially since the Lesnar camp feels they were cheated in the first fight. Did you see how focused and deadly Brock looked just walking to the ring. This monster doesn't come to play; he comes to destroy.
Dana White knows first hand what Brock Lesnar is like. He's invested alot of time and money into Brock. Dana White knew beforehand what mentality Brock was in before the fight. He helped cultivate it.
Let's not allow Lesnar's behavior to overshadow a few other black marks on the UFC image. Wasn't it just a short time ago that Dana White went "off" on a reporter with a vulgar and slightly homophobic laced tirade? How is this behavior acceptable? IF White can't even stay professional then how is he to expect his "gladiators" to stay professional?
What about Dan Henderson? His post fight comments and end of the fight actions weren't the most "sportsmanlike". Are we to ignore these actions because he's an awesome UFC/MMA veteran? How many other fighters have popped off after their fights during the post fight interview? Is it really a smart thing to interview someone just minutes after their intense combat? You can't always expect a fighter to be able to come out of his fighting mentality and switch into a spokesman right after a fight.
NO excuses, in each case I think all 3 of these men were wrong and neither incident justifies the other. But, I also think that Dana White has some responsibility in this latest incident with Brock Lesnar. If you raise pit bulls to fight and then one of them goes crazy and bites someone is it just the dog's fault?
