
Navy Tennis
The Patriot League announced its all-league teams on Wednesday and included amongst the first team were three Navy Midshipmen: senior Nate Nelms, senior Johnny Waters, and senior team captain Jason Hill. Nelms also won the Patriot League Player of the Year award for the second time and Hill took Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Coach John Officer was named Patriot League Coach of the Year. Officer's six league titles while at the Navy helm sets a new Patriot League record.
Overall, the Mids were 18-7 on the season and took the Patriot League Tourney title for the third straight year. During that time they have a perfect 20-0 mark against league opponents. The Mids begin NCAA play on May 8 in Charlottesville against top-seeded Virginia (29-0).
Navy Baseball
Navy (19-26-1) defeated Delaware State (18-18-1) on Tuesday 8-4 on the strength of a six-run sixth capped by a three-run home run from junior Mike Hoosier. Earlier in the sixth sophomore Jonathan Wright ripped a two-run single to give the Mids a 3-0 advantage. Navy reliever junior JD Melton pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball to seal the win. Melton, in his last season of eligibility, has a save and 13 k's in 13 innings of work on the hill. He's also added 18 putouts and 26 assists in the field while seeing time both on the mound and in the infield.
Navy hosts NY Tech (16-23) this weekend for their final three games of the 2009 campaign. Play begins with a single game on Saturday at 4 pm and a doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon at Max Bishop.

Navy Lacrosse
#12 Navy (9-4) senior goalkeeper Tommy Phelan was chosen by Nike/Inside Lacrosse as the Division I Player of the week. In a game shown live on CBS College Sports, the Mids bested Bucknell (9-7) 9-8 on Sunday to take the Patriot League crown. The Mids will advance to the NCAA tournament for the sixth straight year.
ESPNU will broadcast live the 2009 NCAA tournament selection show at 9 pm on Sunday.
