Navy Goalie Jeremey Estevez in early season action

With Navy football's high-powered offense off until Tuesday, Navy hockey took up the slack and unleashed 50 shots on goal Saturday night to knock off Pitt 4-1 at McMullen Hockey Arena.  Senior center Charlie Daniel of Nottingham, MD scored twice for the Mids.

After a scoreless first period, Pitt's Matt Stewart poked home a loose puck to briefly put the Panther's out in front 1-0 early in the second.  Daniel opened the scoring for Navy at 7:29 in the second to draw the game even at 1.

He later iced the game with an empty-netter at 19:03 in the third to close out the Mids' scoring.  Sophomore Sam Carlson and junior defenseman Patrick Heitman added goals for Navy.

Senior Jeremey Estevez turned away 29 shots including a critical penalty shot late in the second period off the stick of Pitt's Jeff Boyd.  At the time Navy held a slim 2-1 advantage.  Pitt's Ed Nusser stopped 46 shots on the evening.

 Rematch Today

The Panthers return to try to even the weekend slate against Navy today at 2:30 PM at McMullen.
