Droopy is a purebred male Basset Hound who is about four to five years old, around 70 lbs and just a very nice boy. He is good with other dogs and has a beautiful red and white coat. Our adoption fee is $100 for dogs & $80 for our cats and covers their mandatory spay/or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam. To see Droopy or any other of our great pets, come to the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Wetumpka, AL, 36092, call us at 334/567-3377 or go to our website at www.elmorehumane.com . We are open for adoptions Mon-Thu 10-4, Fri 10-5, and Sat from 9-3.

Humane Society of Elmore County News – 14 Sep ‘09, Rea Cord, Director

It was a great adoption weekend for our pets as 21 of our dogs and cats found homes through PETsMART’s Second Chance for Love Adopt-A-Thon. We were at both the Montgomery and Prattville PETsMART stores, and as with so many of our events thank our staff members and all the volunteers who came out to help: Ellen Fallon, Meagan LeMacks, Jenefier Dyches, Lucia Penland, Marissa Miller, Chantil Patterson, Donna Crisler, Shanda Robinson and 2 children, Connie Morrow, Lindsey Terry, Jeanette Masters, Marnie Shahin, Willy Nelson, Todd Mohns, Tyrone Cooper, Teresa & Bryant Stokes, Dave Dunn, Al Aspera, Tammy Frazier, Bill Shainline, Iztok Vavpetic, Bud Ayers, LeVonne Taylor, Kenisha Stewart Brown, Adrienne & David Brendle, Jan Darby, Hayley Mims, Mike Craig, Robe Zipplies, Carl Haynes, Shedrick Mitchell, Patricia Campbell and Ann Lucas.

And while so many were busy at the PETsMARTs, another group of volunteers were busy telling everyone about our shelter at Eclectic Trade Days, so many thanks to Charline Pope, Rita Caswell, Fran Holland & Jeanne Osborne for helping in Eclectic.

We have another busy weekend ahead as we will be at the AUM "Find a Friend" Adoption Day on Saturday from 10:30 am – 1pm with more of our great pets. This event brings a multitude of shelters and rescues together in one place, so if you are looking for a new pet, AUM will be the place to be on Saturday.

And if the AUM event isn’t enough to fill out your Saturday, then join us at the Millbrook Festival from 9 am until the fun ends. We will need volunteers to help man our table and help with pets, so please contact Charline Pope at popecharlie@russellcorp.com or give her a call at 514-7088 to give us a hand.

Finally, to wrap up the month of September, make sure your plans include BARK IN THE PARK at Ft. Toulouse in Wetumpka on Sunday, 27 September from 1-5 pm! This pet friendly event has something for everyone – arts and crafts vendors, great food & refreshments, music by Cecil & the Polyphonics, dog agility demonstrations, a microchip clinic from 2-4 ($26 for the chip and registration), pet contests, the great cars from the Capitol City Street Rod Association, pony rides, and so much more! There will be a $5 admission fee for those 13 and older and we will have someone at the gate of Ft. Toulouse to take money and give you a map and schedule of the events. All dogs must be leashed, good in public and have a current rabies tag on their collar. To learn more just click on the banner on the top of our website at www.elmorehumane.com or give us a call at 334-567-3377. And we do still have room for vendors (vendor space is only $35), but please contact us first as we need to make sure we don’t have duplicate products or events. Feel free to email us at hselco@bellsouth.net for more information.
