Humane Society of Elmore County News – 6 Jul ‘09
Late last week we sent out an email plea for dog food as we were almost out. And our supporters came through in a HUGE way! We cannot express our gratitude enough to all of the individuals, businesses, organizations and more who rallied to get us out of the danger zone. It is very humbling to be supported in such a big way so quickly and saying thank you just doesn’t seem to be enough. But on behalf of all of our dogs, thank you, thank you, thank you ALL! We are not yet sure when our regular supply sources will get back to normal but we will let everyone know when things look like they are back under control as food is generally one item we never need to ask for.
Why do we go through so much food? For the month of June we took in 293 dogs, 337 cats and four ‘others’ (rabbits, guinea pig). On any given day we are caring for upwards of 300 animals meaning we do use a lot of food each and every day. Maybe there will come a day when we are only needed to reunite the occasional lost pet, but sadly that day won’t come soon enough for far too many innocent pets as only 143 found new and loving homes last month.
Unselfish and noble actions are the most radiant pages in the biography of souls. ~David Thomas
Meet our Pet of the Week;Joe is a neutered male Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix who is about one year old and around 15 lbs. Joe came to us with a broken rear leg as his owner would not take him to a vet to have his injury taken care of, so we did. His leg healed just fine and Joe deserves a better home where he will be cared for no matter what. He is fairly laid back, HW negative, great with other dogs and children and just very loving. Our adoption fee is $70 for our cats and $90 for dogs and we add $10 if we have also gotten their rabies vaccinations done but you get the tag and certificate. These adoption fees cover the cost of the mandatory spay/neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming and a free health exam. To see Joe or any other of our great pets, come to the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Wetumpka, AL, 36092, call us at 334/567-3377 or go to our website at www.elmorehumane.com . We are open for adoptions Mon-Thu 10-4, Fri 10-5, & Sat from 9-3.
