In a poignant interview with Barbara Walters, Patrick Swayze opened up about his pancreatic cancer. Dispelling tabloid reports that he is on his deathbed, Swayze says, "I am in the fight of my life, but don’t count me out yet. Just watch what I can pull off!" The tabloid reports, that he has five months to live, or that he is already on his death bed, have had a very negative effect on the actor and his wife. "They take away your hope, and you need hope to fight."

Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi, broke down several times, and it was impossible not to feel the pain and anguish they are experiencing. "I’m scared, sure, but I’m tough, I can handle it, bring it on." One can only hope the media will now give them the respect and privacy they deserve, and allow them to fight this battle in a positive, hopeful light.
