The age of racism and racial division is far from over. However, the racism that exists in this country today is the type that has been endorsed by not only pop culture, but by certain laws like affirmative action and groups like the Congressional Black Caucus. The gears of racism are constantly being lubed by entertainers like Jamie Foxx who, at the BET Music Awards proclaimed that Michael Jackson was a black man, owned by the black community, and the black community shared him with everybody else. His comments were greeted with raucous cheers.
Jim Brown recently chided Tiger Woods for not doing enough for the black community. Jim Brown has publicly denounced Michael Jordan for the same thing in the past. For those that see beyond the color of one's skin we ask, "is being a role model, a decent human being, an example of individual fortitude, and being successful not doing enough?" Jim Brown is a product of a different era, but he has worked so hard to achieve a color blind society, and he is so immersed in the idea that we are an inherently racist society, that he cannot see the vast majority of Americans that simply do not care what color somebody's skin happens to be.
President Obama did not use the color of his skin in any remarkable way during his campaign, but even he felt it necessary to point out the fact that he had a white grandmother. Although publicly he does not seem to harvest any controversial attitudes pertaining to race, in his book "The Audacity of Hope", he describes a sermon given by the decidedly racist Pastor Jeremiah Wright in which the Pastor said, "..the white man's greed runs a world in need." President Obama says that he was moved to tears during that sermon. President Obama even commented about those of us in middle America saying that we "hold an affinity for those not like them", and that we are, "clinging to their guns and their religion." The evidence shows that the President of the United States views the American society as one of racial intolerance, and oppression on the part of whites.
Those that attend the anti-spending, anti-taxing, anti-big government tea parties are characterized as racist white people. Who is responsible for this characterization? None other than the supposedly post-racial, uber tolerant leftists in our media. This is part of an on-going effort to characterize any dissent from the Obama agenda as being a backlash against the first black president. Funny then, that most tea partiers are fed up with the Republican party and those that destroy our founding principles like George W. Bush did during his final days as President.
In November of last year, Nebraskans ousted state sanctioned racism by voting affirmative action policies out of practice in this state. This signals that we, in Nebraska, are ready to move beyond racial division, and usher in a new time of judging somebody by the content of his or her character, and not by the color of his or her skin. Was this not the point of the Civil Rights movement in the 1960's? Would the leaders of that movement tolerate advantages like segregated scholarships, affirmative action policies, or a Supreme Court Justice nominee that ruled against a group of fire fighters simply because they were white?
We in the conservative movement yearn for the day that our leaders, entertainers, and media personalities quit putting all of us into little groups based on race, age, religion, or gender. The conservative movement "holds these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal..." The conservative philosophy pertains to all people, of all backgrounds, and is truly color blind. If one is honest, works hard, treats others kindly and fairly, pursues his or her dreams, and does his or her best at whatever he or she is attempting to do, the conservative movement maintains that he or she should not be burdened or hampered by a large government. The conservative movement wants everybody to achieve their maximum potential in life, if a person is willing to work at it. One will never hear conservatives say that any group of people are particularly disadvantaged due to their race or background. We want maximum opportunity for all people, and we disdain the forces of "can't."
We understand that people are born into different social and economic classes, but we refuse to believe that one is destined to remain in squaller that does not wish to do so. If not for the welfare state, if not for laws that provide advantages to people based on race, if not for the constant push for diversity in the most diverse country the world has ever seen, if not for the industry of race baiters like Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Jim Brown, Jaimie Foxx, and a whole host of guilty white liberals, this country could move far beyond the days of racial division.
If the conservative philosophy were to be understood and embraced, and the progressive philosophy would be truly scrutinized and rejected, this society would see racial tensions fall as much as possible. The much exploited poor minority neighborhoods may be inclined to change from the inside out, instead of having to cling to the hatred of empty promises from without. So long as the race industry exists, and we allow our laws to sanction special advantages to different groups of people in the name of diversity, our country will continue to further divide.
Only in America could the most hateful and bigoted people within our borders be regarded as tolerant. Only in America could the only truly tolerant movement, the conservative movement, be regarded as racist and bigoted. For now, we must suppose that the business of keeping us divided into groups is too lucrative, and the politics of division are too powerful. Still, we must strive for a day of unity under the red, white, and blue.
