Healthcare reform will pay for abortions

the situation should be held responsible for their actions- financially. Since September 1976, the country has agreed to this and abortion procedures could not be covered by federal funding. While health insurance companies should continue to offer birth control pills as part of their prescription plans, an elective abortion procedure should no more be subsidized by taxpayers than would a face-lift or a tummy tuck. Abortion, even that of late-term pregnancies, should remain legal and be expanded in its legal availability. It should not be up to anyone but the woman to decide whether or not the procedure is something that she wishes to go through and she should be given the utmost of privacy in this case, regardless of the age or marriage status of the woman. A woman’s body is her own and her decision to terminate a pregnancy and how it will be performed should remain between her and her doctor.
That being said, a woman’s decision to have a non-medically necessary abortion should not be paid for by anyone but her, or possibly a charity. Multiple contraceptive methods are widely available for free. Even when I was in middle school in the late 1990s the school nurse had condoms that anyone could claim free of charge. Birth control pills are available in many health clinics around the country, often subsidized by taxpayers. But when people choose to renege on their responsibilities as adults (as children should be exempted from being held responsible for their behavior for obvious reasons), we do not force them to pay for the mistake themselves, but rather take on the burden as a society.
If a woman forgets to take her already government subsidized pill and her partner forgets to wear his government subsidized condom, it’s okay, because society will pay for their abortion. When they forget to have the abortion, it’s okay because they can abandon their child at a hospital, police or fire station. And for awhile, if those parents forgot to drop their child off within thirty days of the child’s life, it still okay, because they could drive to Nebraska and dump their child on the state at any time within an eighteen year period before they could legally kick their child out of the home for good.
Today, we live in a responsibility free America. Banks and businesses that do not use their money wisely are bailed out. People who buy more house than they could afford are handed the deed for free. The only people in this country being held responsible for bad behavior are the people who willingly possess good behavior in the first place, and then they are burdened with the responsibility for the bad behavior of others. What are we teaching our children when we do not make people take responsibilities for even the most basic of actions and what will it mean for the future of this county?
