With the hassle of driving through and in the Bay area, public transit is a near-luxury. For many of the residents, it's a necessity. But it can be an overlooked gem for those who want to check out the breweries and not drive.

Gail Williams and Steve Shapiro have put together Beer By BART for the beer enthusiast who wants to check out The City and not put up with the problems of driving. The folks that put together Beer By Bart have added to the Bay Area beer experience by providing a virtual map to the best beer hot-spots in San Francisco and the East Bay. Words of advice from Gail for the Sacramento residents: "You can drive to the end stations of BART to park, or you can come in from the Sacto area on the Capitol Corridor train, then transfer at Richmond station to BART. BBB shows you how to get from BART stations to good beer destinations in the SF area. Capitol Corridor trains do go to Richmond for easy transfer to BART, though the time needed for a round trip makes that strategy better for a weekend visit. Another strategy is to drive to the Pittsburg/Bay Point station near the Sacramento River Delta area, or the Dublin/Pleasanton station ends of the line to park then ride in. This gives you time to rest (and allow your blood-alcohol level to recover) after savoring a few fine beers, before driving the rest of the way home.Beer By BART"

Their philosophy can be summed up here. You can't help but notice a long destination list on this page. Some of the premier destinations include The Trappist in Oakland (with a huge selection of Belgian beers all served in appropriate glassware), and City Beer in San Francisco. This is an excellent retail store (with some draft beers) that also allows you to drink your purchases there. This shows the passion of two people who are enthusiastic about good beer, and traveling safely to it.
