While the crowd was modest in size, those who attended the Folsom Oktoberfest were fortunate to sample excellent beers and food at The Balcony Bistro in Old Folsom. The first annual Oktoberfest and Brewing Contest was positively received. Sponsored by the Folsom Brewmeister homebrew shop, this was two fine events in one day. For a handful of judges, this was a competition in the morning at the homebrew shop. The Oktoberfest party benefited local charities.
The beer offering at the Balcony Bistro included homemade beer, as well as beer from Lockdown Brewery, a brewery based in the Folsom area that has their beer made in Stockton by Valley Brewing Company. Their Stony Bar Scotch Ale is in the style of a Strong Scotch Ale, but more chocolately than caramelly. A robust, full-bodied dark ale that goes well with the cooler seasons, this was one of a dozen beers featured. Four beers from Primator were offered in bottles, while the remaining beers were fresh on tap.
