Creating a profile on Facebook seems simple enough, however, making sure that your profile is effective and does the job can be harder than it seems. Here are some basic and not so basic rules you must follow in order to make your Facebook profile work for you.

Create Your Badge
1. Use a current professional headshot of you. This is crucial. People need and want to be friends with a real person not a logo, a juice bottle, a cat or anything else. Plus your photo provides people with their first impression of you and it had better be good.
2. Join at least one network. As you can see by my Facebook badge above, I am a member of 3 networks. This widens your visibility and makes it so that people can find you easier.
3. Include as much information as possible about you, including your hobbies, interests, books you enjoy reading and a thorough description of you and your business.
4. Include at least 1 and up to 4 website or blog links.
5. include a profile HTML box so people can opt-in to your list.
6. include your real birthday so people can wish you happy birthday but do not put your birth year as this can be an identity theft issue.
7. Create the kind of profile of the kind of person you would want to meet and be friends with.
8. Add a brief description of who you are and what you do in the box underneath your picture.
In short take the time to create an interesting and attractive profile of someone that people want to get to know.
